January 1, 2014

Today we tried to do 14 acts of service. We made it if we fudge the numbers a little bit. Here's what we did.

1. Put away our neighbor's trash can's.
2. Left a chalk message on a neighbor's driveway.
3. Helped daddy and made our neighborhood nicer by raking up our leaves (they've finally all fallen.)
4. Dropped a donation off at Goodwill.
5. Visited Sister Brink in the Assisted Living Center. We chatted with three other ladies there as well, which is where we're fudging the numbers a bit. I think we can count each of those ladies as an act of kindness.
6. Paid for the guy's lunch behind us at In N Out.
7. Emptied Grammy's dishwasher.
8. Shared a milkshake with grandpa. (This is another fudge. We didn't actually buy it for him, but the kids hardly touched it, so we gave it to Grandpa and counted it. Sometimes service is done using just what you've got. Right?)
9-12. Dropped cookies off at four homes of people in the ward.
13-14. I'm going to count those old ladies. Or maybe the playdate I scheduled with a stay-at-home-mommy who has no car during the day. Or maybe Rob taking the kids to the nickelcade could count. I know we're stretching it here. But I'm counting it as a successful day.
